Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say early analysis suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.
An important official stated the incident made him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant targeting individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
